Part-Time Organist

First Presbyterian Church of Norfolk is seeking a part-time organist to join us in worship.

We are seeking a professing Christian who will provide musical accompaniment and instrumental music for our Traditional Services at 8:30 and 11:00 every Sunday and special services such as Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and Christmas Eve. In addition, the organist will accompany weekly choir rehearsals on Wednesday nights and play for various special church events.

The organist will provide accompaniment for our traditional choir which numbers between 10 and 25 for each service.  Our choir is led by a Music Director and includes paid section-leaders.  The FPC choir is noted for high-quality vocal performance, and in recent years has led worship with the Faure' Requiem, Vivaldi Magnificat, Bach cantatas as well as contemporary compositions such as Kenneth Leighton's Crucifixus.

Our instruments are a magnificent 4 Manual Walker pipe organ (tracker action) with seventy ranks of pipes and fifty stops built in 1992, and a Yamaha grand piano.

The successful candidate for this position will work collaboratively with the Director, Traditional Music and the pastoral staff to plan music that will enhance worship for roughly 500 church attendees each Sunday. Education should include a B.S. in Music and a minimum of three years of experience as an organist and accompanist.

To apply, forward your resume to Sue Sechrist, Director, Traditional Music.
