Christopher Haynes came as the Assistant to the Senior Pastor, Jim Wood, in May 2005. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from the College of William and Mary in Virginia in 1993. He accepted Christ during his freshman year as a result of outreach from Christian ministries at the college. Chris remained very active in InterVarsity, the Baptist Student Union and Campus Crusade for Christ as well as helping start a Christian magazine on the campus.
Chris has a passion for sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ across language and cultural boundaries. He has been on and led mission teams to Amsterdam. For the past five years he has been a Spanish interpreter in the medical clinic during our annual Nicaragua mission trip. He achieved a working knowledge of Swahili while staying with the Wood family for six weeks during Jim's six-month sabbatical in Kenya. He loves languages - fluent in French and Spanish and also has a command of several other languages, such as American Sign Language, Dutch, Russian and Italian.
In addition to his work on staff, Chris serves at First Presbyterian as a deacon, a leader of the Alpha Course, a resource for the Long Range Planning Committee, and an adult Sunday School teacher.
When Chris is not at church, you can probably find him going to the movies at MacArthur Mall, watching American Idol, reading the early Church fathers, awaiting the latest installment of Harry Potter, or listening to his iPod. His favorite music artists are: Lifehouse, Rob Thomas/Matchbox Twenty, Chris Daughtry, Dean Geyer, Carrie Underwood, Jonatan Cerrada, Relient K & Anthony Callea. |
