Here is a recent letter from Brandie to members of our congregation:
Hi! I want to first thank you for your continued support through prayer! I feel so blessed to have you lifting me and my ministry up in prayers. I know it's been a while since I've sent a list of very specific prayer requests, so I felt now could be a good time for that and a quick update.
Ministry is going really well. The street kids are quite a handful on top of my regular teaching duties, but they are my joy! I know God gives me the strength when I feel weak and I truly enjoy serving and working with these kids.
If you've read my blogs in the past, you may get some of these references... Moses, who is recently off the streets and in school, has been doing great. He wrote me a letter (which made me cry) last week saying thank you and how he never knew life could be this different. Ivan and Joseph are still in boarding school and doing great. Joseph who is in the last year of primary, has exams coming up each term (we're at the end of 1st term)!! Please pray that he will do well and be able to move on to Secondary school. Ivan has started P3 (the year they are forced to speak English in class). He's struggling a bit, having known only the tribal language because of life on the streets, but I know he's excited to learn it more in depth! At the boarding school they have been joined by Julius, who is loving life outside of Kampala! It's been a treat to have another one of their companions (from the streets) to join them at the school. Recently, Jacob (who was nick-named Owino because he used to pick up metal scraps from a large market called Owino) was run over by a car (hit and run) and killed. Please pray for the other boys to cope (who were his only known family), and for continued protection over their lives.
And finally, a very pressing prayer request is for safety. I turn to you, my prayer warriors for this!! Just this past weekend, my house was broken into and robbed. All my valuables were stolen, laptop, money, ipods, jewelry, cameras, etc. I must admit I am just most thankful for God's continued protection over my life that I was not harmed or even present at the time of the break in. The (guard) dogs are safe also. Although not the best guards! The thieves used a pipe and pounded down a portion of my brick wall to get inside. I feel violated and unsafe. It happened between 4pm-8pm in the evening. Please continue to pray for protection in this place. I thank God for the reminded that material things are not what is most important (to me or to these street kids), but what is most important is Knowing and Serving our Lord and sharing His love with others.
In His Love,
Brandie
