Sundays at FPC

We want to make your experience at First Presbyterian a great one. We can’t wait to meet you!

Traditional Worship & Service

8:00–9:00AM

11:00AM–Noon

This service contains traditional elements including hymns, doxology and the Apostle’s Creed and is accompanied by our Chancel Choir. Held in our historic Sanctuary, this sacred space is the perfect place for traditional Sunday morning worship.

When attending this service, enter through the wooden doors on Colonial Avenue. There will be greeters there to meet you, answer any questions and give you a bulletin. Sit where ever you feel most comfortable.

Contemporary Worship & Service

9:00–10:00AM

This casual service is led by our praise and worship team. It includes a children’s sermon and the children are dismissed from worship with their leaders. Bring your coffee and experience the preached Word. Stay around for coffee and snacks and meet someone new!

Enter through the doors from the parking lot. There will be greeters and children’s check in stations straight ahead.

Community Groups & Sunday School

10:00–11:00AM

During our 10 am Community Hour, we offer many opportunities to experience transformation in Community Groups. God designed people to grow in their faith and follow Him in the context of a community. A Community Group is a gathering of people who meet regularly to discuss biblical text, share joys and concerns, and pray for one another. We also have Sunday School classes for children and youth – nursery is available as well!

FAQs

  • There is no dress code, so dress comfortably. In both our Contemporary and Traditional Services, you will see t-shirts and jeans as well as jackets and neckties and everything in between - in general, business casual is the norm on Sundays at FPC.

  • Our church is located at 820 Colonial Avenue in the heart of historic Ghent. Enter our main parking lot driveway – “First Way” – from Colonial Avenue. Feel free to park in one of our reserved spots for visitors and enter through the main entrance under the blue welcome banner.

  • Enter the main doors under the blue “Welcome” banner from the parking lot. We call this area inside the church “The Common,” and it is the central hub of life at FPC on Sunday. Check in with one of our Welcome Desk volunteers for directions to worship or for help checking in children. After worship, we encourage you to hang out in “The Common” and grab coffee and a snack.

  • Plan on arriving a few minutes early. This will give you time to park, check your children into their designated areas, grab a cup of coffee, and find a seat before the service begins. We have three worship services and a community hour on Sunday morning.

Traditional Worship begins at 8am and 11am

    Contemporary Worship begins at 9am

Community Hour (Sunday School) begins at 10am.

  • We love kids! We welcome wiggles and giggles in all church services. In both our 9am and 11am worship services we have a children’s sermon, where kids can come forward to interact with our Director of Family & Children’s Ministries. Afterwards, kids are invited to attend children’s church with our children’s ministry volunteers. Or, they can return to their parents and stay in worship. Parents are welcome to join us in children’s church to help their child(ren) get acclimated. There is a nursery available for kids under 3 at 9am and 11am.

Your children’s safety is our top priority. We have check-in stations designated by orange banners. There are volunteers available to assist with check-in and give you a quick run down of the procedures. You will enter some basic information and receive a sticker for your child and a badge for you. All of our children’s ministry volunteers have undergone a detailed background check and been vetted through an application process.

  • At the 10am hour, we have Sunday school classes for middle and high school. On Sunday evenings, we have High School Youth Group from 5-6:30pm. On Wednesday evenings Middle School Youth Group meets from 6-7pm.
